I've personally only gone 125 mph. I know somebody who has hit 135 mph. I'm sure if you chip it, you could increase it.

my gti's (2001 gti vr6 glx-174hp stock, 185 modded) stats are:
stock: top speed 130 because of the limiter modified: 140 w/chip just found a link with some performance info on the new gti, but i don't think its accurate. if a 2000 vr6 w/174hp, tested in road and track, could run 18.3 from 1-100, then how can a 200 hp model only manage 18.86? weird. anyway, i hope this post helps http://www.car-videos.com/performanc...D1=234&ID2=216 threw in a celica gt-s for comparison. a short distance ahead of the gti until it gets to its top end. gti flys by it like no other

Re: top speed on vr6 6 speed
That site is highly inaccurate. Most of the figures on there seem to be just figures people personally got rather than official numbers. The question originally asked for the theoretical top speed... so you have to figure out where it would be at the limiter in 6th gear.... that's the theoretical top speed.

Re: top speed on vr6 6 speed
actually "Prodigy" (doesn't seem like a very appropriate name) the stock limiter on Mk3 GTi's (non-Vr6) is 120mph. If you're going to call someone else an ass, make sure you know your OWN ass from a hole in the ground.
Oh, and learn how to speak english ya friggin moron. |

what's what
I have a '95Golf/'97 Jetta VR6 swap........5 speed
With stock chip top speed is governed to approx. 215km/h (133mph). With swapped Nuespeed chip, i think it can get up to 240km/h (149mph) before 5th gear redlines out. I highly recommend p-chip upgrade to anyone with a VR6 |

Re: top speed on vr6 6 speed
The new VWs hit the fuel cut off near 139mph. With removing the speed limiter, you could go faster than this. A chip, or direct port program will remove the governor. (I've seen a sstage II turbo VR6 do over 160)

the only way to find out the theoretical top speed is to calculate the tire size, final gear ratio, and rev ceiling. this crap about 135 or 140 is enough to drive me mad! oh, not to mention aerodynamics. I hate to say it, but a GTI isn't exactly a knife cutting through the air.

Re: top speed on vr6 6 speed
1 PRODIGY
Some cars made by vw have mistakenly (i think) forgot to install a Governor speed limiter I have a 2006 VW rabbit 2.5l Inline 5/ 5 speed and it got up to (topped out) 139 MPH But I have to say... some people literally Lie and say there cars go 150 or 160 with a rabbit engine and it annoys the shit out of me... because the only way thats gonna happen is if you have APR chip and CAI I just bought a 2004 GTI VR6 i haven't had it go past 100 yet but will keep everyone updated |
