Is this thought possible?
Hey I've had an obsession with Deloreans since I was looking for my first car. Since you guys know more about buying or selling a Delorean then me I thought you could help. I'm in the market, when the opportunity rises, for a daily drive Delorean, cosmeticly need to be good, but not perfect, so not major body work required. Miles don't matter as long as scheduled maintenace records show a good track record. Interior quality I can handle, I know how to fix it up there some what. All I'd like all this around $15,000. Maybe a little more but that is my top price for now. Think I'm crazy? Or could I find one?

Before you get a delorean, there are a few things I want you to know:
-It has 130hp. With its nearly 3000lb weight, you wont be going anywhere fast. -Parts are rare and hella-expensive -You could buy a used car with much better performance for much less (ie 300zx turbo, RX7, camaro, etc) That said, I think you could probably find a decent one with about 30-50k on the odometer for that price. You might have to travel to get it though.

That said, the Delorean did suffer badly from late 70's early 80's regulations and did only have 130 hp on tap. If you're looking for a stylish car that's unique yet still a great daily driver, the Delorean works great. If you're looking for something to tear up the local street races with, I suggest you look elsewhere. However, Delorean Motor Company also currently offers a performance package for the Delorean's PRV engine which raises output to 200 hp...they can either rebuild your current engine to this specification, or you can order a brand new 0 mile engine with 200 hp. They also offer a lower, firmer suspension that allows the Delorean to look and act the way the engineers originally intended it to. $15,000 for a daily driver Delorean is most certainly do-able...while most decent condition ones go for closer to $18,000, it's certainly not uncommon to find daily driven, decently maintained Deloreans in the $15,000 range.

At $15,000 US dollars you have plenty to choose from. I posted a link to one that is currently for sale at $10,000!
Parts are as easy to find as logging onto delorean.com and ordering just about anything you need. I feel the parts are very pricey for 1980's car, but then again look at Lotus, Ferarri or Lambo... You'll be paying a hell of a lot more. Hell, even my 2001 Chevy's parts cost more than D parts I wouldn't recommend the car as a daily driver. It can be done & there are many owners that drive them to & from work... but in my opinion a car like this should be reserved for special occasions. Drive it too often and it gets old just like everything else. As for speed, TerminalV can attest to the fact that DeLoreans can go fast... but yes I wouldn't expect to go around whooping ass everywhere! For that I'd look at a Supra TT ($26,000).

Or if you REALLY want to leave people at the lights then buy a 1974 Ford Escort... gut it... and put in eitherthe Escort Cosworth equipment..... or an R13....
then you will go.... I mean go...... of course the car would be a bit... ... with the R13, but the Cosworth equip was made for the Escy.... I lurv my Escy... ") oh yeah.... in case anybody wants to know... I'm getting a 1998 VT Holden Commodore.... of course most non-australians wouldn't have a clue what a commodore is..

I can guarantee you the majority of AF members are fully aware of Holden and the Commodore.

I had no idea that the Commodore had such a wide reputation....
Very... enjoyable cars... the VT is great for drags... First of the EcoTech engines in the Holdens... They really move. Used by our police force too.

Yeah it is... pretty cool too.... Real power.
I read a couple of posts about the power of a V6 Camry compared to the Delorean..... I've driven the Camry.... and I know that a V6 EcoTech Commodore, which is the lowest of the Holden Family sized car range,(as compared to the middle range V6 Camry) has more road power. It handles better, is WAY more comfortable to sit in and drive.... well... I don't know why anyone would prefer a Toyota Camry... *falls off his chair*
