If you can't afford taking it to the dealer, I would suggest not buying the car because these things are expensive to fix! Unless you are handy and can fix most things yourself, a Rover Classic can cost twice what you paid for the vehicle within a matter of months if a bunch of things go wrong with it. If you are just figuring out if the Range you have found is worth spending a couple hundred dollars to have it checked out, these are a couple of things to look for. Power steering leak (if you don't see fluid, check the resivoir, it may be empty). This is a common problem. Check the color of the oil (if it is overdue for a oil change, this means that the truck has probably not been very well maintained) Look for evidence of new parts on the engine, this is a good sign that repair work has been done and that this component may not have to be replaced in the near future. Inspect all of the hoses Look for evidence of an oil leak Run the engine and listen for bad bearings Look for any evidence of Rust- VERY BAD- Probably on the upper tailgate Make sure transmission shifts well. Make sure that you get the radio codes if you buy the Truck MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you can, get all service records, (they should be about 3 inches thick) this will give you a good indication of what has happened with the vehicle, what the major recurring issues are, and what items have/have not been done. Hopefully this helps! Good luck with it! These are great trucks when the run right. |
