2004 Highlander Timing belt change
Greetings,
I have a Highlander with a VVT-i V6 3.3 engine. It has 104,000 miles and runs fine. I have looked through the Scheduled maintenance guide and don't find a reference to when the timing belt needs to be changed. They call out at 90,000 miles to change the belt on a Highlander with a 3MZ-FE engine which I don't have and then nothing else. Is my engine a non-interference engine and that is why they don't call out the belt replacement since no damage will be done? I appreciate your help solving my issue! |

Re: 2004 Highlander Timing belt change
The 3MZ-FE is the engine you have and is the only V6 offered on 2004 Highlander. Previous engine was 3.0L 1MZ FE V6.

The 3MZ-FE (which you do have) is not an interference engine. The Scheduled Maintenance guide is correct as every 90K miles. While you're in there, it is advisable to replace the cam and crank seals, as well as the water pump. The idler pulleys and tensioner should be checked and replaced if they are not functioning perfectly.
