1991 Cressida will not start

I swaped engines on my 91 Cressida with the same engine only 40 to 60 thousand miles on it from Japan. The problem is it will not start. I get plenty of fuel and spark, but no injector signal or pulse. I have two computers and both get the same results. This is the second motor that I have swaped within the last four years. the first motor no problem it started first time. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: 1991 Cressida will not start

Was the first swapped engine from Japan as well? If so, all I can think of is that the pin-outs from the sensor connectors to the ECM (presumed USA) are different in Japan. I'd start by tracing those back to the sensors to be sure they are correct for this USA application.

If however, you have swapped out all the US sensors onto the Jap block, then my guess is a sensor is in a different position and not reading correctly or one has failed during the swap.

Or it could be the ignition coil. If it is a similar part to the Gen III Camry, they are notorious for failing while still providing a spark.

Ayup, I'm grasping for straws, but hope this will help nudge to to a solution...good luck!

Guesses:
If you are not getting sufficient air flow through the AFM, a sticky AFM, or a bad electrical connection which would prevent the AFM to not send a signal that makes the ECM think the engine is cranking, no injector signal.

Have you checked for stored codes in the ECM?

Ignition timing?

Wiring connection?

Power to ECU?

Water temperature sensor?

Air temperature sensor?

Injection signal circuit wiring?

Stuck injectors?
