my insight
Glad to see people into the Insight.
I bought a 2000 Insight last year. I love it a lot. The 2000 model was supposed to get up to 70 mpg. Well, after driving it a year - 16000+ miles, I get 52.4 mpg. Not quite what they claimed, but I attribute that to the fact that I live in hilly Nothern California and drive it like a sports car. It hasn't had any mechanical problems, but there are some things that bug me. 1) The paint job. - the paint chips very easily. everytime i wash the car, i notice more chips. i think honda was cutting weight where ever they could and the paint was no exception. 2) The shocks. - it is an econo car with econo shocks. very bouncy. 3) The climate control. - change the mode to blow on your feet and it still blows on your face. 4) Road noise. - that is what i get for driving a beer can. no insulation. tires are loud on certain pavements. But other than that, this car is great and I would recommend it. Contrary to the post above, I think it is very spacious and have shoved a hell of a lot in it without noticable power loss. |

Cool. Nice to see someone driving an Insight. I'm in engineering school and hope to get into the next-gen super gas mileage cars. I'd love to have one, but being in college kinda kills your bank account. I think huge SUV's are a huge waste. Good job!

Thanks! Good luck in school. My dad was always fond of saying he has never heard of an out-of-work engineer.
I hope the true 'next-gen' car will be fuel-celled and depend on something other gas. I hope you figure this one out in school! Take care... |

I saw insights everywhere when I visted Cali in July. The parking pattern was motorcycle, insight, cycle, insight *lol*
Glad to actually speak w/someone who drives one!

My mom has had her insight for about a year a half and she loves it. she put on about 40k miles because she commutes far to work everyday. It is actually a cool car. I like to drive it. not fast but still fun because it is different.

I personaly do not like the wheel well covers, but itis for aerodynamics(sp?) and it is for good mileage but I still don't liek them.

That and they have terrible 1/4 turn retainers that that get all the road grime in them and dont lock or unlock very well after that...

I've had my Insight for 4 years and 75,000 miles now and I'm in love with it.
I think I have an answer to one of the problems in the original post for you. You said that when you put the climate control to floor, it still hit's you in the face. I had my Insight for several months before I realized this, but the two side vents are controlled manually. There's a thumb wheel next to them that you can slide up and down to open and close the vents. If your getting air in your face, it's probably coming from there. |
