95 Del Sol....Noisy engine? That ok?
hi guys-
im new here to the site. please bear with me on some of my limited knowlegde. i am a owner of a 94 accord ex and a recent 95 del sol. right off the bat, i have been told i am a worry wart. i guess keep that in mind. my 94 accord has the 2.2 vtec in it and it seems to be pretty quiet ( all honda engines seem noisy to me tho? ). i bought the car with a 108k and as soon as i bought it, i had the timing belt, water pump, balane shaft belt etc replaced. the car now has 121k. the accord is all stock. i just bought a 95 del sol s a few days ago. its the slow one with the 1.5 in it. the car has 137k on it and seems to be very clean. the engine is very clean and runs very smooth but seems noisy to me at idle...noiser than my accord. the guy i bought it from included a receipt from a honda dealership where the timing belt etc had been changed 22,000 miles ago. so i should have another good 50,000 miles before i need to change it again, right? the engine is just very noisy to me. now with that said, is that just the nature of the 1.5? its not terrible noticable inside the car, its when you lift up the hood or even with the hood down, standing beside it. it is stock as well also, the honda dealership bill for the timing belt is just $279.86. isnt that dirt cheap? all it says on the bill is 'timing belt' ? surely they would have replaced the water pump too? if not, could the water pump be making the noise? is it just the 1.5? any help would GREATLY be appreciated. thank you jeremy |

Well, timing belts are good for about 90k each. $276 sounds right. The noise may just be normal engine sounds. All cars sound different. If you really feel there is a problem just take it to the dealership and ask them to listen to it. They'll tell you if they hear anything out of the ordinary.

Is it ticking? That usually means the valves need adjusting.

Generally when a dealership does the timing belt, they offer to do the water pump, but it's not automatically included.

Re: 95 Del Dol....Noisy engine? That ok?
ALL honda cars do have a specific engine noise....that noise adds to the feeling on dangerousness in driving a deathbox...but yes.. the ticking or clicking sound u hear means the valves need to be adjusted...u can do this urself easily and the tool to do it costs about 30 bucks. also as a question...how much did u pay fer an s model with that mileage? nething over 3000 is murder.

Thank you for re-stating an answer posted 2 months ago. And all you need for a valve adjustment is a feeler gauge which can be rented from most parts stores for free.

You can too. You just have to know where to look.

K? Read the rules please. And don't bring back old threads, especially to post something completely unrelated to the topic being discussed. Thanks.
