Unhappy check engine light ???

I have disconnected the battery to clear the code, but it comes back on after about 25 miles. I must assume something is wrong, but the engine seems to run ok. It passed emmisions tests with no problems. Any ideas on what this check engine light could be trying to tell me.

Re: check engine light ???

Hi, I had the same problem. If you have 1999-2004 I believe Solara, they have manufacturing defect. With even normal oil changes your car may develop oil gel and damage your engine. Mine was running just fine, no problems with tests or else. They should of send you the notice about this problem. Also it might be your exhaust sensor that needs to be changed and your computer to be recoded to eliminate the light. Unfortunately this could be done only at Toyota dealership.

Good luck.

Re: check engine light ???

The original poster never says why his CEL is coming on. To assume it is just a reminder for an oil change may not be correct. The original poster needs to retrieve the codes and find out exactly why the light is coming on.

Re: check engine light ???

if you have a solara, you MUST check out www.solaraguy.com. Very Knowlegable people on the board.
Also, from experience, the check engine light is most often triggered by an emmisions problem. We are not necessarily talking about a big problem here.

Loose gas cap, loose connections on intake, vacuum lines, 02 sensors are frequently reported problems that may trigger a check engine light.
If you can retrieve the OBDII Code, someone on solaraguy WILL have info.
The OBDII connection to my recolection, is in the engine bay, passenger side, near the firewall/strut tower.( mine is marked with a plastic cover.)
Autozone/pep boys I hear will have the scanner to get the code from the car as well if you don't want to go to the Dealership.

Hope this helps you out.
