Reverse signal for aftermarket radio
I need a spot to get the reverse signal from under the dash/steering wheel so I can send it to the new stereo I put in so I can activate the backup camera mode.Otherwise I'm running a wire from the reverse light bulb clear back up to the stereo.

Re: Reverse signal for aftermarket radio
If this is for your '08 Silverado, the backup lamps get power from the Underhood Electrical Center (UEC) and along the frame to the rear, and not from inside the vehicle. There is a light green wire from the UEC to a junction box for the rear lamps (intended for easy trailer connection). You can use this light green wire to feed 12V to your radio head unit.
There is also a dark blue wire which provides the pilot signal to the lamp relay in the UEC. This wire is in the left I/P junction block. It is on terminals X1, X10, and X11. You can use any of these for the signal since it is also used on the factory rearview mirror camera setup. IN any case, terminal X11 is usually left open. Simply test voltage at that terminal when in reverse to verify it has 12V, and connect there if you prefer, but the load must be under 35mA.

Re: Reverse signal for aftermarket radio
I guess I got ahead of myself and forgot the pertinent info, but yes it's for my '08 Silverado.I'll take the information you supplied and see if I can get a signal from up front before running a wire from the reverse lamp.
