Important safety notice..
Important safety warning, as I’m sure we all forget, I did… Model building is fun, but remember hobby knifes are dangerous and hazardous to your fingers, and thumbs..
The picture below is not red paint, it is in fact a small sample of the blood I’ve just lost. I’ve gone and done what I’ve said I would do all along and slashed my thumb open trying to open the vents on a C5-R. The good news is that what I was doing was working out fine, and the vents on the hood for the C5-R are becoming open, sadly so is my thumb. This hobby is for fun, but a slip of the knife could result in a trip to casualty.. I was lucky. I do not need stitches by the look of it, but it was close, and I’ve got a nice long cut along my thumb now.. Think I’ll quit model building for tonight..!!! All of you, take note… And take care all of you.. |

Uncannily similiar to mine and on the same car, doing the same thing!! Only thing was that I sliced the tip off the top of my finger (surgical scalpels are evil!). Amazingly it grew back, although my finger tip was flat for a few weeks. Cheers Farrokh

I second that. A couple of years ago using the same style knife and blade as you, I cut myself open also. However, it was pretty bad, and a trip to Accident and Emergency later, I had to have 6 stiches.

Been there done that...daily almost. Each battle wound represents a phase of a model. I've cut my finger tips so often they are callused.

AHHK!!! Is this the post pics of your model inflicted damage to your person thread? heh..I took a deep gash to my left index finger right above the fingernail taking the front ends off a silvia and 180sx. Sooo much blooood! But it was all cool. Never finished the model. Should have gotten stiches..I still dont have feeling in that one spot.

Re: Important safety notice..
Yikes! Go easy!
A safer way to cut those vents is to drill them with a pin-vise first. Drill along the cut-line, then follow later with the blade. Then you're only cutting the spots that didn't get drilled out. Or, if you're just removin the whole vent part itself, a dremel is quicker/safer. Then just clean-up later with the blade.... Speedy recovery..... You're build has sparked a bit of interest..... maybe I'll return to my C5-R build too soon??? Murray |

Re: Important safety notice..
Dang! Yup, my hobby knife rolled off the table once and almost landed on my foot blade first, I was able to dodge away from it at the last second. I'm really careful now.

Re: Important safety notice..
I've managed to come away unharmed from my blade. I get more scratches from the sprues and wheel well corners.

Re: Important safety notice..
I don't think I can be beat...haha.
previous summer I was scratchbuilding sideskirts for the fujimi sileighty and I cut myself 3 times in a row on the same day. I had 3 band-aids total on both hands and it sucked whenever I had to wash my hands. |

I had a good one back last year. Put the hobby knife down on the table, picked up the glue, didn't notice the knife rolling of the edge.........WAHHHHHHHH! Straight in my foot like a F***ing dart!
Trip to A+E (for the 4th time that year!) Lesson learned. The hard way |
