G-class forum?
The quiet specialty importers of the military Gelaendewagon have been bought out. Mercedes now sells this piece of mastery in its own lineup after viewing its unprecedented popularity. I still can't believe there isn't a thread already for this vehicle (if there is, sue me). Although the new G500s have S-class-like interiors, they are still all the German muscle that the orignal G-wagons used to be.

Welcome to AF!
Say, which do you think would be better at 4-wheeling? This Mercedes, or the Land Rover Defender 90? |

I'm not a 4 wheeler myself, never driven off -road, but I would think the Land Rover Defender.

Probably not a prototype, but more likely the original Gelaendewagon, which could be imported in the past through special dealers for about $150,000 (they've had them in the DuPont Registry) before the G500 was formally released by DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes Benz. The original G-car has been around for some time now.
Interesting fact: unlike the MotoRex Skyline GT-Rs, the specialty imported Gelaendewagon never needed additional reinforcements for U.S. safety requirements because it exceeded safety requirements up to several years from now. It's THAT sturdy. Last edited by Morpheus XIII; 05-06-2002 at 03:57 AM. |
