Are you talking about the black thing at the bottom of the windshield? My guess is that such streamlined body sculpting couldn't accomodate a windshield wiper mechanism so instead of making an ugly bulge on the trailing edge of the hood, they fitted a nice neat little (and probably carbon fiber) housing to cover the wiper's joint. But who knows, maybe it's just their idea of a Caddy hood ornament.

rear underbody diffuser
Its an aerodynamic device intended to improve rearward downforce, in effect hugging the car to the ground. Improves high-speed cornering.
You see a lot of these on advanced open-wheel and limited prototype racecars. Formula 1, CART, IRL and LeMans LMP. A few high-end production road cars have these -- Ferrari F50, 360 Modena and Spider, McLaren F1-GT, Lambo Murcielago, etc. |

Air gets sucked up from the front, and routed to through venturis to produce downforce. (the rear triangle is part of a venturi) This adds LOTS of downforce, and was first seen on the Lotus 79.

actually, the one on ferraris(the road cars) are different. they just are a triangle inbetween the tunnels. all the others(zonda, f1 cars, etc) blend in towards the rear of the car. there are also a few other diffuser designs, like the different ones on the ferrari 360(which is like f1 cars) and ferrari enzo ferrari

I have been lurking on this forum for several weeks and finally decided to post.
I have been a huge fan of the Zonda from the first time I saw a photo years ago. I find the design of the car, both stylistically and mechanically, brilliant. Combining exotic Italian styling and panache with reliable German power a super idea. I always like the way the car looked, but after seeing more of the views from the photo, I love it even more. It is definitely my dream car. I would also like to thank Adam for his great website. Phil |
