Help Please!! LS starts then dies
Just finished putting a hydraulic cooling fan on my wife's 01 LS V8 when I try to start it , it starts then shuts off after a few seconds. Do I need to reset the computer? If I do, how do I do it. Thank you for your help

Re: Help Please!! LS starts then dies
Welcome to the forum!
Was there maybe a hood, trunk, door, or glovebox light that was on for an extended period while you were working on the car? You might try charging up the battery. The electrical system on these cars is very sensitive to strong batteries. You shouldn't need to reset the computer, but if you have access to a scan tool, scan the PCM for codes prior to clearing the codes (effectively resetting the PCM). Did you have any of the appearance covers off the top of the engine during your work? Maybe you disconnected the Idle Air Control motor, or didn't get the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor reconnected tightly, or didn't get the intake air tube properly connected/secured. What happens if you give the car some throttle after it starts, will it say running? Does it run smoothly? -Rod |

Great, glad to hear you got it figured out and running again. Those types of issues can be frustrating. Guess how I knew to suggest you check that area....

Re: Help Please!! LS starts then dies
Just replaced dccv and installed new battery today. After filling degas bottle with coolant, I was about to bleed system. Car starts then sputters and dies. After several attempts, car now starts and immediately dies. Any ideas?

Re: Help Please!! LS starts then dies
You are right on the money. The tube was gapped just enough to cause the problem. You guys are priceless. Many thanks

Re: Help Please!! LS starts then dies
Did you record the specific diagnostic code numbers (such as P0174, etc.)? If so, please provide the code numbers.
If the scan tool you rented includes a datastream mode you can monitor the operation of the MAF sensor assuming you can keep the engine running long enough to see the flow rate change according to the MAF sensor reading. Has the battery ever been replaced? If not, there's a reasonably high chance the battery is contributing to the issue, especially if the battery is more than 3 years old or so. -Rod |
