I would contend that if you were looking for a good all around car in this price range, you wouldn't be looking at either of these cars, you would be looking at a Porsche 911 or a BMW M5. The Viper and Z06 are both pretty performance focused cars.

While a lap of the Top Gear track won't tell the whole story, I think it gives you a good look at the bigger picture of these two cars. I really can't think of a single competition in which the Viper could beat the Z06. C&D and other magazines have run similar comparisons and as far as I know the Vette has won them all.

Depends if you own a car to make for a small penis, in which case the Vette is clearly the winner, or you own a car because you happen to enjoy its performance and driving dynamics, in which case the two are going to appeal to differnt slightly different buyers.
But, the Vetter is still technicaly better, its a more modern car, the Viper is over a decade old now.

I honestly have always thought of the Viper as being more of a "I'm compensating for something" car then the Corvette. Most people can't tell the Z06 from a base Corvette, while the Viper is quite the attention whore.

Regarding the horsepower question, its perfectly believeable that the Corvette puts more power down to the ground then the Viper. 95% of manufacturers measure hp at the crank. Large amounts of power are lost between the engine and the tires, and a car with a less powerful engine could theoretically put more power to the wheels with a more effecient drivetrain.

Even if the power was completely described by what the manufacturers claim, that 5-10 hp will be more then made up for by the weight difference.

Re: 07' Z06 Vs. 07' Viper

I'd take the Viper any day....even if I was paying for it. It's head-turning ability more than makes up for a it's slightly slower track times/acceleration. That and the exhaust note is just.....

I had heard something about there being no 07' version. It really does make sense that they would have to do a major update in light of the Z06.

I'm not sure what I think about this McLaren involvement, the Viper is about as far away from McLaren car philosophy as possible.

BigG123- you have alot to learn
