328i oil change: $80 vs. $260 ??!!

Just called two local dealers for my first 15,000 mile oil change on a 3-year old 328i. (Bought it certified pre-owned with 35,000 miles on it; I'm at 50,000 now).

Open Road (edison nj) is quoting $80 for an oil change. Princeton BMW is quoting $260.

Princeton insists they'll do all kind of diagnostic stuff. Sounds fishy to me. Can anyone shed some light, or is this a rip-off?

Thanks.

Bmw dealerships like to rape owners on these services. I think an inspection is they will check a bunch of stuff like filters tires etc stuff that can be checked by the owner as for an oil change 80 dollars is reasonable or do it yourself with synthetic oil and filter around fifty dollars. I take my car to dealership if its something major and i cant fix Have it done at open road. Are they an independent bmw shop?

Not sure what makes a shop independent, but Open Road is a chain of at least a few dealerships (non-BMW) in northern NJ. (The Ryan Automotive Group or something like that.)

I had a couple problems with the car in the winter and took it to Open Road and the service was pathetic. Took 'em 4 trips to diagnose the problem, and their idea of the advertised "Free BMW Loaner Car" was a nissan sentra or a smoky mazda piece-of-crap. So I was hoping to find another dealer, but I guess $80 is the discount price, along with the discount service.

Can't you buy the oil and filter yourself and then ask any shop to change it? That would seem like the cheapest way to go and you'd get high-quality oil in your car.
