2003 Pilot: Rear Lock Actuator

Greetings,
I have made an attempt to replace the left rear passenger lock actuator that went bad in the Wifey's 2003 Pilot. I was able to get as far as the final attachment between the locking mech and the outside door handle. Where I ran into a snag, was attempting to disengage the metal. I didn;t want to take the risk of breaking anything, so I sewed the door back up and threw in the towel. Does anyone have a quick a dirty method of changing the actuator?
Thanks
