how do i install a tachometer in a 99 tacoma 4x4

i have a 99 tacoma that has a 2.7 liter engine,
i dont have a tach on my dash and i would like
to buy an aftermarket one that mounts on the
dash. were would i plug the wires into? does
it have a outlet to plug into on the distributor?

There is a plug behind the instrument cluster for a tach but that usually has other wires that attaches to other things in the cluster. If you buy a used toyota cluster for that year you can simply transfer it over. After market will have good instructions. you will need a wiring diaghram for your truck. This link will help www.customtacos.com/tech click on interior/audio tech and then mini tach install. You don't have to install at the ecu harness, instead tap into the wiring harness at the cluster. It's usually the black wire coming from the igniter. have fun.

Notes:
*1 Two pin plug, top rear of fuse box. *2 igniter is located on the right side of engine compartment for V6 and on the left side for the 2.4L 4 cylinder. On the 2.7L 4 cylinder it will be located at the ECM behind the glove box or at the cluster.
