Ferrari 458 GT2 JMW motorsport 1/24

and here again with another F458 Gt2.
the first model I made was the stunning colored AF corse car, this time I will go for the nice yellow sneaky JMW motorsport gt2.

also this time I will use the revell 458 stradale as starting body. decals are from Hobby design and rims are made by me, after robyJ help in find the definitive NICE bbs wheel for those gt racers.

Re: Ferrari 458 GT2 JMW motorsport 1/24

so as said the work starts from the stradale bodyshell. I prefer work with rvell thick plastics cause they allow me to sand and cut in a more relaxed way than work with thin fujimi plastics. More the revell 458 comes quite cheap around and its biggest negative issue is about wheels, as nearly usual with all revell car kits.
The bad point, however, is that revell germany works with recycled plastics, really poor in quality compared to any japanese producer.

work on body so far..

Re: Ferrari 458 GT2 JMW motorsport 1/24

i love to compare my newer gt2 to my previous model.
This ferrari is one of my fav best ever. The nose of the racer becomes sooo aggressive in gt2. It nearly reminds to me the terrific nose of GTO/308 cars.

one special feature of the JMW car is the many small spotlights in the nose

I mad those with fujimi m3 clear sprue. Better japanese plastics than recycled revell trasparents really.

then time to fit the nose air vents, another specail point of the gt2

as well as the typical rear vents

Re: Ferrari 458 GT2 JMW motorsport 1/24

@ dany:
ciao bello. tutto bene?
si penso si riesca, ma se non sbaglio qualcuno le ha gia fatte le gt3. ho visto qualcosa su fb ma non ricordo. belle auto ma a me la lambo gara non fa impazzire..

@ carbonkid:
thanks.
I usually like to work with ordinary old dirty milliput .Both those bodies were made with ordinary red one (the cheapest u find around, something around 7 euros..), it is possible work also with the superfine type, even if those big works are ok with any kind of it, including the brown one.
I love this old putty, the real trick is to peel it correctly and mix it carefully the 2 parts. Once done is the perfect material. still, imho, after so many years.

I dont suggest tamiya bi-component putty cause it always remains in my hands quite soft and is not possible to sand and repanel it as this old "dirty" british putty.

Re: Ferrari 458 GT2 JMW motorsport 1/24

thanks Jabel. Is a car I really like. see the one I made some years ago is still a great pleasure, sadly there are so few decals for modern gt2s and gt3s around as well as no ones at all for the newer 488, even nicer than the 458.

Re: Ferrari 458 GT2 JMW motorsport 1/24

so, time to proceed with this car. I honestly was really tempted to let it in ferrari red, cause I think this aggressive gt has an amazing shape and red gives better justice to her lines.
Anyway I also like a lot the union jack flag, as on my previous Nissan GT-r Gt1. This jmw car is decal covered, and this is better cause i dont like so much yellow ferraris.

the idea now is to keep on both with this gt2 and that other gt3 i started 2 yrs ago and never had time (read also motivation) to close it.

time to make both the wings for those cars. I casted theme from fujimi latest z4

I didnt remember the decals from decaldoc had 2 layers (one silver as base and one coloured). this is a real pain the a..
HD indeed made an extremely nice and quality decal sheet. Misteriously the instruction sheet shows an ordinary 458 body....that makes it messy about the real position of letters and markings..

I think its due to the origin of this decal: their own 458 gt2 resin kit. quality of printing is anyway really great. Miles and miles forward to decaldoc, that remains anyway quite unique on valentino rossi car.

some minor refitting on the flares before painting. nice to see them near together

then time to prepare interiors. It is basically the engine bay and the rollcage different in those 2 cars, as well as many other details, so study carefully the pictures is a needing

a base of tan primer

Re: Ferrari 458 GT2 JMW motorsport 1/24

here comes the nicest part for me in those kinda models.
this 458 is totally wrapped of decals. More than ever is VITAL to have quality decals. the ones i had to use for the gt3 car of vale rossi were truly artigianal ones.
Those made by HD are indeed ultra quality and professional. As usual anyway there is some problems, and here is about the instruction sheet. Decals and instructions seems made by 2 different person, cause despite the markings are incredibly printed and welldone the drawing to explain are too often mistaken.

The main mistake is about the giant dunlop logo on the doors, that on instructions is over the "feel the road". Real car is different.
Mess also in the explanation on how to place the big pattern on bonnet and roof.
My tip is ALWAYS to check very careful the pictures of the real car, and then place the decals. This makes all the process become much longer.
I was anyway happy and surprised cause the dimes and sizes of all decals fits nearly perfectly to my body. Means I was not so far from the correct result....

ok, not stop with bla bla bla and lets show the pics...
