2001 regal stalls out (ignition?)

So I have been trying to find out what is wrong with this regal and after doing a little searching it seemed it was most likely the crank position sensor causing the problem so that got changed and now the problem isn't so bad but it happened twice in about 30- 40 minutes of driving after the change which was better than it was doing before.
So after reading something else it seems like it is the ignition switch because the second time the starter was not working and after turning the key a couple of times it started again.

So I was wondering how likely is it that it is that switch and worth trying to change it? I do know they had problems with them from around that time because I had a Malibu with a switch problem So it seems that it could be part of the problem.

When it stalls are you driving, at a stop idling, does it start right back up. Any other symptoms?

Re: 2001 regal stalls out (ignition?)

Before the crank position sensor it was stalling out while driving. Now that the sensor was replaced it stalled out twice while stopped within about 30-40 minutes of driving, one time it started right away the second it would not crank until the key was turned on and of a few times.

I can only describe so much because it is not my car so that is what I have found out so far

Sounds like no crank issue is seperste from the stalling. Try cleaning the throttle body for starters. When it won't crank see if the security lite is on. Make sure all the battery connections and grounds are good.

Re: 2001 regal stalls out (ignition?)

I am unaware of the security light because I was not driving but I will have to see when I get a chance to look at it some more. I was leaning towards the switch because it seems to match up with what others have reported about it such as the stalling and Trac/service soon lights which are not always on.
