Audi R8 sales/production

Hey, just posting the same question here as I did on the Audi section:

Recently at the Ft. Lauderdale collection website, I found an Audi R8 for sale. Obviously it didn't mention a price, but this brought up the question fo whether or not this sale was an anomally or whether or no Audi made a quick (maybe five car) production run of the R8 like Porsche and M-B did witht he GT1 and CLK GTR. Anyone out there know what the hell is going on with this?

I've never heard of street Audi R8s. Just to correct you on this Mercedes and Porsche had to produce 25 "evolution 1" street cars and than just 5 "evolution 2" ones to homologate their race cars - which they did and as you can see you can still find few of these cars for sale. However I'm not sure on the different FIA rules that apply in different categories of GT racing. Maserati recently announced that their MCC racecar will be preceded by 25 MCS street versions. However I don't remember seeing and Bentleys similar to the ones that won Le Mans for sale and the same goes for those BMWs that won a few years ago. Maybe cars like the R8 and the Bentley don't need to have street-legal "brothers" because they're considered prototypes? Someone with deeper knowledge of FIA rules take a stand!

Exclamation

just to be clear on this...... I'm only talking about street versions...you can always find for sale the real racecars (naturally not as often) which may or maynot have been made street legal (it's not always possible anyway) - that R8 you saw is probably a real racecar

Re: Audi R8 sales/production

THanks for the info. I don't believe I've seen an brethren of the Speed 8's either so perhaps that class doesn't need the street brothers. Looking back at the webste it was listed as one of the racers so it was bona fide LM.

Re: Audi R8 sales/production

Yeah, I checked out hte different R8's that have been raced in the last couple years and based on the looks of it (unless two were painted with the same glowing red and blue pattern) I believe it is the chassis #38. Too bad, though, I went back to where I found it and it is no longer there. Some rich bastard stole it away.
