92 Dakota Fuel Line Quick Disconnect
Can anybody explain how to release this quick disconnect? Is there a tool? Is it a push or squeeze. I can't find any reference. Thanks.
Please see attachment for a picture of the "quick disconnect." |

Re: 92 Dakota Fuel Line Quick Disconnect
Judging by the corrosion on those lines, I seriously doubt there's anything "quick" about that disconnect.

Re: 92 Dakota Fuel Line Quick Disconnect
Before attempting to remove, I'd soak the end going into the fitting and all around the fitting with trans fluid. It can be used or dirty old fluid, but this is some of the best rust penetrant I've ever used in all my years turning wrenches. Let it soak for an hr & reapply when you attempt the removal. Be sure to wear eyewear to protect your eyes from the trans fluid, rust and fuel which will spash out when it's all released.
How this quick connect works is by pressing in the entire ring into the fitting. Twist both lines to get them moving and breaking the seal. Also push the left line into the fitting a little more in order to help break the seal. Once the plastic ring is pressed into the fitting, the left tube (that fits inside) will slide out, leaving behind the plastic ring & fitting on the right. See the attachment:

Re: 92 Dakota Fuel Line Quick Disconnect
I avoided the problem by not working on that connection. I know that is just putting off the inevitable, but I'm in broke/fix mode.
I used the S.U.R.& R. products they worked well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdZ14nZ4uoU |

Re: 92 Dakota Fuel Line Quick Disconnect
Cool. Well, at least you made progress & have a way to use the vehicle in the meantime. Really glad you posted an update & what you used.
