Re: How much is your gas?

If the car manufacturers would use all of that brain power to give us better mileage instead of making 10 ton 400hp beasts this wouldn't be such a big deal right now.

Actually, we have to thank the suckers that bought the beasts.

Re: How much is your gas?

I'd drive an Opel Corsa ECO 1.0 12V

I've got a Ford Aspire, got 40mpg this last fillup, I am pleased considering it's been hovering around $2.25/gal for 87 these days.

I remember visting Nebraska and they had crazy gas. At this one Sunoco station they had 85, 87, 89, 93 and 94 (i think, may have been 91 and 93), and they had a separate pump for race car fuel, same number of octanes though i think, but it was wild. I personally wouldn't trust fuel below 87 though.

We don't really need 60 mpg. 20 is pretty good around here. I think that they are draining the gas out of our cars while we sleep.

maybe the 85 is for people heading into the high elevations of WY. Like the 7200 ft I am at in laramie.

Whoever said "what there paying over in England" please remeber England is part of the United Kindom of which
Wales
England
Scotland
Northern Ireland
Are part of and we all pay the same for fuel.
Mr skyline was close but you put down the price per litre not gallon.

Its 90p on average per litre, your gallons are different to ours so im going to work it out as 3.89 litres to gallon as someone said on here
£3.50 per gallon
thats $6.60!

Thats why we have cars that can do so much with so little, take the 1.3litre (ITS NOT 3LITRE!!!) VW lupo that can do 70 mpg (diesel costs a lil bit more than petrol) and the smart car (mercedes pretty much) that runs off a 600cc (thats right 0.6 litre!) engine, turbo charged but you get the idea.

America has built its car the same way for ever, There;
Big
Automatic
Heavy
Gas Guzzlers
and until that changes your car industry will suffer in the future, Fuel will only go up in price as time moves on!

We have:

Diesel = 51 - 55 Cetan

Ultimate Diesel = 60 Cetan

Mix 1:50 = 1 Liter OIL on 50 Liter Gasoline

Normal = 91 Octane

Super = 95 Octane

SuperPlus = 98 Octane

V Power / Ultimate = 100 Octane

Where are you at that you have that high octane fuel? 100 Octane would just about blow the heads of any motor!

100 Octane? We have absolute no Cars with 100 Octane! But we have many Cars those must have 98 Octane.
The large companies want to make money. Super Plus with 98 Octane is to be abolished. The difference between SuperPlus ( 98 ) and V Power or Ultimate ( 100 ) is 0.80US $ per Gallone. You understand? That is really clever!

Re: How much is your gas?

hmmm filled up 2 days ago, nz$1.40/L so

1.40 X 3.8 = nz$5.32/gallon

exchange rate is ABOUT nz$1 =US$0.70

so nz$5.32 X 0.7 = US$3.72 per gallon.
not as bad as i thought it would be.... but still shit when theres non public transport and shit roads.

The knock sensor from very good Cars can work with max.98 Octane. If you can buy only 100 Octane Gas - you burn your money for nothing!
BtW - more and more normal cars ( not only Sportscars, high performance Cars or so ) want SuperPlus ( 98 Octane ) - say the Manufacturers! Really good candidates for the new and expensive 100 Octane "Super-Racing-HighTech-Monster-Killer-Power" Gasoline!
And - we have practically no new Normal ( 91 Octane ) Cars over 1000cc = 61Cubic inch! Is that really necessary? I do not believe!
I believe that is a large "Moneymakingmachine"!

I think part of the reason for the high octane numbers is a difference in measurement, but I could be mistaken.

Anyway, in Yuma, Arizona, regular unleaded (probably 87 or 89 octane, never looked) is $2.37 and diesel (unknown cetane) is $2.41.

Cetane in the US is usually in the range of 40-44, and some people are lucky enough to get cetane ratings betwen 45-50. If you can find biodiesel in your area, that has higher cetane of course.

I've always found that my car gets better mileage with the rot-gut, low cetane fuel, but it sounds like crap and smokes(comparatively speaking). I understand the noise/smoke, but not sure why the mileage is better. Maybe just coincidence. Diesel fuel for most of America sucks, and it's practically a necessity to use a fuel additive(I always do) for raising cetane, adding lubricity, and dealing with water.

I do not believe!
Diesel is very important in Germany. 44% of all Cars are Diesel Cars.

VW Golf = 53% Diesel

VW Passat = 78% Diesel

Ford Focus = 59% Diesel

Mercedes E-Class = 70% Diesel

The HighTech Diesel ( for example Ultimate Diesel = 60 Cetan ) is for more Power ( up to 5% ), less consumption ( up to 5% ), a better exhaust emission characteristics, less Smoke and it is to clean the ( old ) engine. But the most Test say - "the Super Diesel is well however too expensiv!"
