Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Little update on the Audi, I started to build some components in the trunk which will be visible through the grills. It is mainly the radiator and some of the fuel system. I used the kit's radiator and scratchbuilt the fan and the housing around it from styrene bits.

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Thanks guys! Little progress on the grills, I glued the rear ones in place. The side intake mesh from the Beemx photoetch looked too rough as I wrote before, it is now made from really hard steel with much less detail, whereas in their older Toyota Celica Twincam kit they had much more detailed meshes for the grills. I hope they'll chande it back in the future... I drilled and thinned down the original plastic grill meshes from the kit and added some finer mesh to better match the originals.

Savage build.
Mesh looks more in scale and shows sometimes improving the kit parts can often be as good if not better than leaping to pEtch upgrades. |

You are absolutely right Boreham, sometimes DIY makes more sense! Although not even my DIY grill mesh matches the fine pattern of the original

Some progress on the Audi, grills are in place and I replaced the kit's, thick rear windshield and side glasses with 0.3mm clear sheets. They will look more realistic in scale - in my opinion.

Some update on the wheels, the Audi will have gravel wheels on, Rescue Models rims combined with Tamiiya Peugeot 205 T16 tyres.I painted them with Tamiya TS26 / Revell 9 Antracit and added some detail paint before some light weathering with AK European earth pigments.

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Thank you JC! Some progress on the wheels and the windows. I washed the wheels with a mix of water, AK European earth pigments and a really tiny tiny drop of liquid soap, let them dry, brushed away the excess with a 1cm wide brush. Then I cleaned them with the moisture of my fingertips to avoid being too dirty, since it was a dusty but not muddy rally. It is really easy to do and adds great realism to the wheels. Now the only thing left to add the valves - which is often ignored but gives a realistic touch to the wheel in addition.. I did some experiment and scratched the re-made rear windshield and side windows with common dust found in the corners of my modeling cabinet. These scrathes represent the original worn look of the plastic windows, often used on the Gr.B rally cars in order to reduce weight.

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Some progress on the Audi, I washed the body with a mix of AK European dust pigments, tiny drop of liquid soap and water. After it dries I need to remowe most of it with a thick brush to represent the dusty appearance of the San Remo race.

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Wow...let's see how is its appearance at the end. This kind of dust is very normal in the engines, interior and chasis of rally cars, even if the body is very shiny! I'll try it!! Good job waiting the brush cleanning end process.
