65 GTO tachometer wiring

I pulled the engine over the winter on my 65 GTO to do some cleaning and maintenance, now I have a wire that I've traced back to the ralley gauge tach. I've lost track of where it hooks up and can't find an answer in the shop manual. Someone spliced a black wire onto a white wire coming out of the rear of the tach, where does the white wire go? I'm thinking the positive side of the coil but want to make sure. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Joe
