Books, Books, and More...Books

How many of you pick up a book from time to time for leisure reading? Right now I've found myself engaged in a book called "Me Times Three". It's a new book. Definately written with a light heart and a good sense of humor. What's got your attention?

I'm big on Fantasy/Sci Fi.

I'm on a series called The WHeel of Time. it's 9 books long so far and it aint finished.

also i really like a book called the Reality Dysfunction. Sci fi but a really cool subject dealing with existence. it has two books following it in the series.

Maybe you saw my sig a while back.

Right now I'm reading:
1) Gulliver's Travels - Jonathon Swift
2) The Brothers Karamazov - Fydor Dostoyevsky
3) The Kingdom of God is Within You - Leo Tolstoi

I just finished:
1) A Prayer for Owen Meany - John Irving
2) The Universe in a Nutshell - Stephen Hawking

Gulliver, Kingdom and Universe are for pleasure, the rest are for school.

I just finished reading the Harry Potter series and they were great! I am currently reading Lord of the Rings as I have never read it before. One of my all time favourite books has got to be The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe though.

Just that book or the series? I love C.S. Lewis, btw. He was good friends with Tolkien.

I am a readeraholic. I read anything and everything I can get my hands on. I haven't build a house yet (just condo ownership), but when I do, the biggest room will probably be the library for all the books I have. There are thousands of books and thousands of magazines. Shoot, I have every issue of Scientific American for the last 23 years and usually have them read within two days of getting them.

Read read read read read - its a wonderful thing.

Like Yogs I'm an avid reader too. I can't even begin to list all the books I've read.

Right now I'm reading a great book by Neil Stephenson. _Snow_Crash_ I suggest if you like sci-fi to check it out. Also another book of his _Cryponomicon_ is top notch!

I'm also big into fantasy.
FTO Girl: If you like Harry Potter and would like to read something a little more 'adult' then try the Song of Fire and Ice series (my personal fave) by George R.R. Martin. The first book in that series is _A_Game_of_Thrones_. Also anything by Robert Jordan (Sword of Truth series) and Terry Goodkind (Wheel of Time series). All excellent fantasy writers.

I could go on but I'll spare you all!

Thanks for that. I'll definitely give them a go. I really enjoyed the Harry Potter series and was quite surprised just how well they are written, particularly as they are “supposed” to be for children. I know so many adults who have just loved reading them. Maybe that just means we are all just big kids at heart! :hehehe:

A book I just picked up that was recommended, The Stranger by Albert Camus. It’s a short read that deals with existentialism and the death penalty.

Where do you guys get your books? Bookstore like Barnes and Noble? Or used bookstores? There are some wonderful used bookstores around here, and up in Oregon, about 20 minutes away from campus is a barn that has been converted into an old library/used bookstore. I love going in there and perusing the books from time to time.

Books are not I only read when I have or want to learn something, like computer books. I dont think I ever read a complete book back in high school. Do cliffs notes count as books?
