Used in a variety of car with a variety of specs, I guess the PRV should be a pretty good motor. Although I've heard good and bad things about it.
I know the Delorean scene has a couple of mods available, but still seems pretty weak if you ask me.
According to the article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRV_engine, a PRV engined Peugeot still holds the fastest speed on the straight at Le Mans & although the ill-fated Delorean uses the same gearbox and engine placement as the Alpine A310, the Alpine poses superb & composed handling even though it has a large V6 hanging out behind the rear wheels.
I wanted to get some information on whether we can actually build this engine to produce good strong amounts of power using EFI...

I hope this turns into a good thread. I've often wondered the same thing. Seems like here in the states the parts are tough to find.

Any truth to the rumor that the rods and crank are the weak points? If you can solidify those parts I would imagine they would take boost nicely.

The guys at the Delorean Motor Company have been working on giving the car that extra power it always needed. So far they've come up with a turbocharging kit that somewhat does the trick. But according to some reviews on the DMC forums, does make the car suffer more in terms of reliability.
The PRV was designed to be a V8 initially and then due to come oil crisis or something, two cylinders were scrapped and it was made into a V6.

Who knows, if we take the design of the PRV and machine parts, we might have a cracking V8 on our hands.. LOL..

I know the PRV isn't anyone first choice in terms of engines... Its no SBC or SBF, but we all know it is used in a number of cars and surely someone on here should be having an idea of what can be done to give it some serious grunt.

But seriously, here in the states I only know of two places to get PRV parts and they're just replacement/maintenance parts. The only real advice I can give you is either do a quality build on the shortblock and take your chances, or maybe use some modified off-the-shelf parts from (for instance) a SBC or SBF that you know will hold up to some boost.

Who knows... performance cams, etc.. could be sourced that will fit the engine. Like you guys in the US have specialized shops that build American V8s with performance cams, pistons, etc.. I wonder if there are any for the PRV...

I have just seen this, hope not too cold now as a thread. Anyway I have been working and developing this engine for sometime, and would be more than happy share what I have been up too, and help you where I can with your project if you are staying with the PRV; it's always great to meet fellow enthusiasts
