Resolved: "Tighten Gas Cap" code
Hi, all!
Consistently getting a "small leak in EVAP system" and/or "Tighten gas cap" codes. I tightened gas cap, checked it out (no wear or rot or nicks in seal). Cleaned it a few times. No changes After some research, I replaced the Vapor Leak Detection Pump. Still getting the codes. What should be my next place to look? Thanks for any advice 2015 Ram 1500 V6, 60k miles. Update: changed the vapor leak pump, it took a couple of days before the light stopped coming on. Apparently that was it. Last edited by AlphaCrow; 02-15-2019 at 03:30 PM. |

Re: "Tighten Gas Cap" code
Ok, changed gas cap. I'm still getting "tighten gas cap" message.
Before I drop big money on a smoke test, should I change the fuel pressure sensor? |

Re: "Tighten Gas Cap" code
Usually when that pops there is some issue with the evap system. I keep getting the occasional evap system code on my work truck and then will get the check gas cap that eventually just goes away.

Re: "Tighten Gas Cap" code
remove fuel tank pressure sensor then check wires at connector then if all looks good then check for any moisture in purge line at purge solenoid if moisture in line will need
to clean line ( hard plastic tube) at solenoid & also replace purge solenoid & fuel tank pressure sensor then you must reset PCM or code may return & will never confirm the repair as a successful repair |

Re: "Tighten Gas Cap" code
Solution: changed fuel cap and pressure tester at tank. Still had a day where it threw codes, but it cleared up after another day of use. Been holding steady.
