Burning Ignition Coils

Ma 1993 RR 3.9Vogue EFI was running fine until one day, after a 2-hour off road hussle, I packed it but wouldn't get it started again. Checked under hood just to notice the coil burn't with some now solidified jelly around its neck. Before replacing coil I checked the resistor+diode and resistor was confirmed gone. This I replaced before fitting new coil but after a few minutes test run the coil heated up, the car started pinking and the resistor was confirmed gone. I tried another coil with higher resister but this too (coil and possibly with the resistor) went after a few minutes run.
Something must be feeding more current than should be to the coil, or what else could it be? I am in the middle of Africa, somewhere. Any experience to share?
