Car For College

My dad wants to get me a car for college soon... my choices (that I like...) seem to be...

'05 VW GTI VR6
- Leather
- Sunroof Package
- Premium Sound

'04/'05 Acura TSX
- MP3/CD Player
- Full Acura Body Kit
- Spoiler
- Optional Black 5-Spoke Rims

Both are 6-SP Manual...

GTI comes out at $27k, and the TSX comes out around $29k.

I'm leaning to the GTI, any opinions? Other cars I should consider?

Re: Car For College

A GTI shouldn't cost 27K...but I guess with those options, it could. Anyways, I'd take the TSX, hands down. That car is winning all kinds of awards, the true cost of owning it (gas, insurance, maintenance) is ridiculously low, and it's a couple grand cheaper.

Re: Car For College

i wouldn't suggest a nice car for college, cars get broken into ALOT at college and a nice car is an even bigger target. Also, at decent schools, your car is less of a status symbol than it is in High School. Also, at some point someone WILL puke in your car.

Between the 2 though, I'd suggest the GTI, you can fit alot of beer into a hatch.

Re: Car For College

I would suggest the GTI because the '05 is gonna be mark 5 (so it looks HOTT), its got aLOT of room on the inside for when ur drivin all ur hammered friends home, or drdisque said, u could fit alot of ur shit in there too. Also, TSX looks like a granpa car, and theyre no fun to drive. they feel like TL's.

Re: Car For College

The TSX actually feels very nimble, and the six-speed shifter is just too sweet to describe. Of course, like almost all Hondas, it feels a bit gutless, until you get past 4000 rpm; then, there's nothing like it for less than $30,000.

Re: Car For College

I didnt like it myself. moved like a heavy civic, kind of annoying to me, i think it's based off the accord which would make sense. btw i drove my friend's dads with the auto, so idk about the shifter. i shud chek that out sometime.

But still, there are no words to describe how Euro the new GTI looks, though. Lovin it.

I totally wouldn't spend the money on a brand new car for college. More than likely like drdisque said someone is going to puke in your car. Maybe you can convince your dad to get you a beater now and a sweet ride when you graduate. I had a used ford escort wagon (killer ride with the ladies) and it worked great to haul people, beer, and also all my crap to home and back when the semester was done.

The Mk. V GTi wont come to America for a while. Europe next year, but Americans will have to wait. The new GTi is supposedly much closer to the origional idea then the mk. III and mk. IV, much better handling, less luxury, more sports car, and a 200hp 2.0t.

I found the TSX to be much closer to the RSX then the TL. It has a good feel to it, but not AS good as the GTi.

You could combine the 4-doorness of the TSX with the Volkswageness of the GTi with the Jetta GLi. A friend of mine owns one and loves it. The new ones (05') only come with a 1.8t, but the older ones (03' and 04' i believe) have the VR6.

You shouldn't be able to find a R32. I read somewhere that they are all sold out, and its a limited edition car with only one year of production.

Other Options: RSX/RSX-S, Sentra SE-R Spec-V, used BMW 3-Series

Hehe, I'm lucky that my parent's will co-sign for me whenever I get a new car. Although I'm probably gonna pay cash for it anyways
