HI!
Does anyone know if I can replace the body control module on a 2001 olds alero 3.4L engine with a used one.. thank you |

The BCM needs to be set up the car. The used one MAY work, but some of your options may not. Will also need to do a theft system relearn. Not sure it would work with a used BCM...I've never tried.

It's different, for different years.......in some cases you can reprogram it, some you can't....if trying to play plug and play, it might work.....but because of theft deterrent, I don't even think it will start......
On the new cars, it's absolutely not! Many moons ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, GM told us to do this during our diagnosis: "Replace with a "known" good part." In the old days, if you had a bad ECM, you could just swap them out of another car if they had the same number......today you can't.....the important modules, are encoded with the VIN of the vehicle they are in.....when you try to swap into a new car, the other modules won't recognize the different VIN, and won't communicate with the module.... |
