Dántin Pramac Ducati GP4 ´05 Test+Race
Hi guys!
While finnishing off on my Télefonica RC211V ´03 I picked out and started this double build. I will do the test and race versions of Roberto Rolfo's 2005 Moto GP ride. I think the bike livery is a real stunner and I'm very soft for test bikes. There are (minor changes beside) two options for the race livery, the differences has to do how far up the side cowls the black area is painted. I've decided to go with the version where the black reaches up to the mid portion of the side cowls as I've seen a few of the other one. The one I've chosen looks like this: Test bike looks like this: and for that I'll be using the Renaissance decal sheet: I've only just started the cowlings and the engine. Pics will come soon. I'm also planning for a comparation between the kit fork parts and the metal parts supplied by Tamiya. /Joel

Yes, I've heard that from other sources as well Pippin. Hope you get them down alright. Good luck on your build, any troubles so far besides the decals?

It's black. I don't risk my well being on CF liveries ;-)

Re: Dántin Pramac Ducati GP4 ´05 Test+Race
Some serious puttying is taking place in southern Sweden. Sweet jesus how hard it is to get the rear cowl smooth. I'm on my third round of putty and I'm running out of 600 grit abrasive paper. Starting to look pretty decent and all I have to do now is to pick out some 1500 grit and then head on to the primer.
Engine, frame and air bow are put together and waiting for painting. /Joel

Hi,
had to laugh at your muscle aching. I was the same, now its a cinch with the sanding sticks from Crazy. Did an old RG500 seat, tank, fairing, clear glass, last night and for the 1st time in 25 years had it turn out good. Rod. not so tired now lol |

Re: Dántin Pramac Ducati GP4 ´05 Test+Race
I put kits on my wishing list all the time but since my mother saw my pile of unbuilt kits she has stopped buying them ;-) The wife has never bought any. It's up to me...

Re: Dántin Pramac Ducati GP4 ´05 Test+Race
Decided to compare the Tamiya front fork set to the regular front forks. I bought a set on E-bay and hopefully I'll get it next week. Will try to do my best on both and see if it turns out value for money or not.

Re: Dántin Pramac Ducati GP4 ´05 Test+Race
Had a long painting session today. I primed all body parts and found some imperfections. Bloody seat cowl ;-) Temperature was a bit low so I had some runs from the primer that I have to sand down. I'm priming the test bike parts grey and the race bike lightly white, as the plastic is red I'll get a nice pink color to start with.
I've painted all semi-gloss black parts including those to be covered with CF (will dive into the Pit-walk collection books for reference). Engine parts that calls for X-16 in the instruction has been painted black enamel and then sprayed with Alclad II Aluminum. Here an idea was born for future projecs. Before the aluminum color covered all of the black base the engine looked really weathered. Will have to try that one. Would be perfect to skip one step, wouldn't it!? /Joel
