6VD1 advice needed for low compression (expert pls)
Hopefully a 6VD1 3.2 DOHC guru out there can spare some advice.
'92 Trooper w/just at 100K on well maintained, babied motor. Yet, told wouldn't pass CA emissions due to burned valve(s) #2 cyl, causing low to no compression. Which I went home and confirmed. I find that a bit unusual that a car w/only 100k miles these days would burn valve(s), but I guess it's possible. My question, how to approach a fix. I know it's a fairly complex engine, but got no choice or $$, so gotta do it myself. Confident I can, done worse. But wondering which way to go. Pull the head & find a replacement? Valve job? Better yet, what could cause this? Lifter fail? Just looking for some clue or direction. Thanks in advance. p2 |

First things first, how old is your timing belt? Has it ever been changed out?
A timing belt that's stretched can cause timing issues, which could possibly be related?? What kind of oil have you used in the past?

Timing belts & tensioner replaced around 90k. Oil's changed religiously every 3,500 mi. Kendall GT1 10w 30 or 40 in Summer.
