928s tranny swap?
hey i found a 928s for sale by me. i checked it out and looked great and ran fine with only like 60k miles. i really want to buy it, but the only thing stopping me is that is is an automatic and i love driving manuals. my question is how expensive and hard would it be to find and buy a manual transmission for this car. i could do the accual swap myself if porsches aren't too different from civics in that regard... anyways just looking for some insight anything would be a big help.

Re: 928s tranny swap?
Ooops, have you checked the traffic on this forum? There has not been that "many" even in the last 12 months.
928international.com has 1/2 price off on used parts prices. I think a 1988 gearbox will run around $2200 and you pay half of that. You will still need to get all the other parts that may total to another $1000 or so. I think you need to do some clearence modifications to the firewall as the automatic firewall is a little different. All in all, I would say look for a 5 speed if you like them that much. I had a 1988 automatic and I loved it but I always wanted a stickshift. I still have my 1989 5 spd S4 that is putting about 430 RWHP that is a blast to drive but I regret selling the automatic. btw, checkout rennlist.com :-) |
