Tailgate will not unlock

2000 Zafira Elegance 2.0dti

Opened tailgate, but when I tried to close it, the latch was not "open" - that is, the latch in the tailgate hit the fixed post and left the tailgate ajar. The small curved moving part that should circle the fixed post when it is closed is in the "closed" position.

How can I get the latch to open so I can secure the tailgate?

Thanks...Gary

Youv'e probably closed it by now!? but you can push the gate accross the lock manually with a screw driver and restore it to normality
