Maximum amps output by cig lighter connector?

How many amps will the cig lighter connector in 95 Tbird put out?

I'm thinking to use that source to power the a/c blower, since the heater/ac controller power switch is dead. I haven't been able to find a replacement controller (and haven't been able to get the dead one out of the dash anyway...!).

Fortunately all the vacuum doors seem to work just fine...!

I've measured 11.5 amps to the blower with battery 12V jumpered directly to the blower (so spins at maximum speed). I have no idea what the normal current draw of the cig lighter might be... Unfortunately, I cannot even see the wire that connects to the underside of the cig lighter connector. (Don't even want to think about removing the console...!)

Thanks much for any advice...!

Re: Maximum amps output by cig lighter connector?

Look at the fuse for the cig lighter (accessory labeled?) probably a 20 amp fuse-- but the connection where you tap into the lighter- the pin point contact of the plug spring-loaded touching the brass inside the plug will be just a pressure contact. and will most likely overheat due to minimal contact, and start arcing inside and eventually melt the plastic around it. I do not advise you use this as your 12vdc source- instead use a heavy wire with a bolt down terminal end on it to attach directly to a fuse or fusible link- or an open spot in your fusebox.
