rebuild tranny, yeah or nay?
i have an 89 prelude si, manual tranny on a 2.0
i grind in second and third... what would it take ( $ wise) to do it, and is it worth it? the body is mint, and it has new suspension, and the motor will be rebuilt if i do the tranny, so should i rebuild the trans? i dont want to find a used one, b/c i do bad with junkyard parts... thanks |

I would say go for it, but also get your torue convter checked, i know this doesnt concern you, but all ford 302's have bad torue converters that after a point can kill an engine even if it doesnt even have 50 thousand miles (likr my engine that will probaly die soon).

:hehehe: :hehehe: :hehehe: :hehehe: manule transmissions do not use a touqeconverter, they use the clutch to achive a idling engine while stoped. the engine must be allowed to move freely with out moving the wheels , so a clutch is used in a manule transmission to disengage the drive wheels , or in a automatic a touqe converter is used were it allows the engine to rotate with the wheels being keped from rotating.

thanks for the info, but i found out that it is at least 500 for just a rebuild, and if i replace shiet, it is hella expensive... so i am buying a used one... for under 400... but thanks anyways guys... and i know dustin's site... i recommend it to everyone i know...
also, my torque convert, er, clutch... is only 15k mi old... so that isnt a worry... but i'll check it out anyways... thanks again guys... and i know you are gonna tell me horror stories about used trannies, but hey... im used to used part horror stories... so nothin new for me... |
