"?" about rewiring o2 sensors

i have to rewire my o2 sensors cause of my headers. my stock setup had 2 on each manifold and 2 on each manifold after the manifold's small cat. converter. with my headers i have no manifold cats. and was thinking that they both need to be threaded in after the main cat. converter. so i'm going to have to extend the wires for them to reach. since i'm going to be repositioning them, is this going to cause problems with my engine or will tuning it in fix it, if even needed? any one else have to do this, and if so, are both black wires on the o2 sensors giving the same reading (if i switch them will it cause problems)? thanks.

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

what model do you have? I haven't heard of having to rewire anything to put on a header. what type of header is it?

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

my stock setup is very &%#$ed up. in addition to the main cat. i have 2 smaller cats on the exhaust manifolds. like all headers, mine has a fitting on each one for the o2 sensors. but in addition to the 2 on my car on the manifolds, there are 2 more after each smaller cat. on the manifolds equalling 2 sensors on each manifold. i believe i have to wire the sensors after the main cat that were originally after the 2 smaller cats. i'm hoping someone else has done this and can help me out.

yep. bolt holes and clearance checked out ok, same with the top o2 threads. just waiting for the cat and cat-back.

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

i was wondering if i could splice the 2 o2 sensors together so that they would both read off of one sensor since there is no difference in banks anymore after the converter?

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

ahhh. well since I won't be using a header any way, unless DC unleashes a price soon, that's probably why I don't know about that problem yet. I will probably run into that eventually so please update. thnx. also if you take pics. of what you are talking about that would be great.

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

i can't get pics. the only way i can explain it is picture a set of headers (not the downpipe). instead of just being one header per side, imagine there being a cat. converter attached to the bottom of each header with an o2 sensor before and after the cat per side attached to the bottom part of each header. so from the block you have two separate manifolds, two separate o2 sensor holes, two separate cats, two more separate o2 sensor holes, then the merging pipe, main cat, muffler. that's the stock setup. since the headers i have only have one o2 sensor hole i'm going to have to put the other 2 after the main cat (only one left) to still read properly. i was wondering if i could just splice the wires together from both of the "after the converter" o2 sensors so that i would only need one actual sensor and so that the readings would be identical since they are no longer separated by sides.

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

well I talked to a couple of people who are thinking maybe you have the wrong header for your car, or something, there should be holes already there for the wiring you have. I wish I could see it, damn. sorry bro, I wish I could be of more help.

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

no problem, thanks anyway. they're the right headers but i need a different cat w/ 2 o2 sensor holes. i was trying to see if i could combine wires cause i accidentally damaged the one and i can't see paying $178 for an aftermarket one.

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

one last question for this thread, are all odb2 cars have the same o2 sensors except for the connectors?

Re: "?" about rewiring o2 sensors

that's a damn good question, and if there is one thing I don't know it's wiring for the 3g eclipses'. I had to call a performance shop to get certain info on my car the other day about where certain wires were because it wasn't in the book and the dealer refused to tell me anything, they just said to bring it in so they could look at it. ha. slimy bastrds.
