Re: Would you buy a FWD Jeep?

I was thinking of buying one. I wanted a Caliber but the Caliber doesn't offer the 2.4l and manual trans in a base package.
The Compass actually offers the 2.4l with a manual trans as standard. I will buy one but not for the off-road capability of the Jeep, but for the 2.4l and manual trans the Caliber doesn't offer.

It runs 0-60 in 10.2 seconds and the ¼ mile in 17.5. According to Inside Line.

So in addition being useless off-road it also sucks on-road.

Re: Would you buy a FWD Jeep?

No, wouldn't want to be seen near one. Now when you tell someone you have a Jeep, they'll think of one of these. They stopped making cherokees, changed the TJ, got rid of the 4.0L, and made these things.

Re: Would you buy a FWD Jeep?

You never know what can happen in the future. The gto came back, charger and the challenger(sp). They may come back with all the old designs in the future. Lets pray that they do. If they come back the the 4.0L it may have 300hp.lol You never know.

Re: Would you buy a FWD Jeep?

The 4.0l I-6 will never come back. The design is heavier than most v-8s and is too long to allow for a good crush zone.
The closest we will get is the new 4.0l v-6 255hp that is in the new Dodge Nitro SUV (based on the Jeep Liberty).

The Compass looks alright, it just looks shitty for a jeep.

Still better than my 2.5L. A Pinto would probably give me a run for my money Is that with the manual or CVT? I like the look of the Compass and Caliber, but DCX wont work with anyone right now on the pricing or anything on them. Im a DCX employee, and am waiting on the end of employee pricing so I can get my decent discount back in addition to whatever other incentive they have.

Well the specs say Manual, but if you look at the pictures it’s clearly the CVT. I guess Inside Line must have messed-up:

Anyways if you do get one you should get the FWD version and the Caliber because FWD means less weight and for some reason the Caliber is 100 lbs lighter then the Compass so that should put the 0-60 time under 10 sec.

Re: Would you buy a FWD Jeep?

I think that they should resurect the EAGLE name again and sell the 2wd, fwd and non-trail rated vehicles under the EAGLE brand and leave the JEEP brand to only the Off-Road trail rated vehhicles.
I noticed that the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited comes standard in 2wd (4wd is an option) go figure!

Jeep is going to make a 2WD Wrangler. Man it just keeps getting more and more retarded.
