Why get a Ferrari?

Seriously guys, I dont want to flame Ferrari owners or potential buyers but I want to ask.

Why are you buying/own a Ferrari?

Is it for you to drive and enjoy the car because you are on the track every weekend testing the cars full potential or is it because you have trouble scoring with the ladies so you feel you need a car to get you some of that attention?

Im just curious to what most of you will post, personally if I had a million bucks to waste Id rather get a nice house and a nice sports car that goes quick enough to beat most of the cars on the road today (5-6 sec to 10km/h) and more or less cheap to run with repair and insurance costs, so this basically rules out Porsche and Ferrari type cars, more like top of the line Holden, Supra or Skyline.

I dont even know how to answer your question. I'll tell you this though...
1. You will never get the same respect with a Supra/Skyline.
2. Ferraris arnt as bastardised as Skylines.
3. I would take the slowest Ferrari over a Skyline/Supra.

So in other words you are after "social" or "peer group" respect from your friends and people you come across everyday? So you dont care about the actual performance of the car rather just the social status it woudl give you? hah typical

But I can see where your coming from.

I think it is mostly about the image, but I can assure you that you will never get the feeling you get driving a Ferrari, a Porsche, or an Aston when you drive a Honda S2000; a Supra, or a Skyline...

There is nothing special about assembly line cars. Ferraris, Lambo's, Aston Martin's, all of the exotics are works of art not just a car. Everything feels like it fits together like a glove, There are no cheapy platic pieces. Maintanance may be expensive, but the more money you spend on anything the more pricey things get anyway.

Re: Why get a Ferrari?

If I had the money I would buy it, and I would DRIVE it. Sure, I wouldn't "push it to it's full potential on the track every weekend", but I would definitely make use of owning an exotic. As for owning it purely for the performance, I can't say that would be the reason to buy it. It's just the sheer passion, the feeling that you get from these cars that would inspire me to buy one. I mean, I could buy a race-spec RX-7 or something to take to the track and race around with, but I would take the Ferrari any day.

Re: Why get a Ferrari?

two answers.

first.
if you were in the market to buy one of these cars and use it as a regular daily car then everything else doesn't matter.
by that i mean, then you probably already have a £2 million pound house, a £750,000 holiday home in Cascai and membership to a £15,000 a year gym membership.
it's all relative.
saying what you'd buy if you SUDDENLY had a big pile of cash is not quite valid cos you are still seeing with the eyes of someone who can't, at this moment, afford it.

my house is valued at about £120,000, my family house is about £200,000.
my car cost me £12,000.
i.e my car is 10% of the cost of my house.

take the ferrari 360 as posed in the thread.
it costs around £100,000.
if the guy in question has a £2million house, that ferrari, only cost him 5% of his home.
it's all relative.
you balk at the thought of a £120 oil change but that's pittance to the guy who CAN afford it.

second.
best explained by examples.

factory machine printed 'poster'
or
original painting?

'off the shelf' suit
or
a tailor made, bespoke suit?

prize-machine digital watch
or
hand crafted george daniels?

Re: Why get a Ferrari?

I would get it for the sheer prestiage and history associated with ferrari. Seriousily whenever i see and hear a ferrari the hair on the back of my neck stands up. Yes Supra, skyline etc or nice cars and are fast etc. but a ferrari is well a ferrari thats nothing like it. like the guy above me said. a Timex watch will get you through and can be nice, but a Rolex is a symbol

Question Re: Why get a Ferrari?

Does anybody in this thread even own a Ferrari? Seems like a bunch of EVO and non-ferrari owners doing all the talking

Thank You.

And VS_Acclaim, if you had a million dollars Im glad you have your priorities straight and would see the importance of buying a nice home first. But dont you think that people who own Ferraris see the same way. I live in a very nice home, have a wonderful wife and three beautiful kids, and and am financially set for life. So why not spend the money on these wonderful cars if a person has the money and the passion for them. And if you want to FLAME Ferrari owners, because that is what you are doing, here is my list so you can flame on me..... 1993 512, 1998 F355, 1999 360, 2000 550 Maranello, 2004 360 Challange Stradale, and just purchased a Black Enzo. That is just the Ferraris that I own. Also I collect Jaguars and Mercedes.

Re: Why get a Ferrari?

ScuderiFerrari, if you own all those cars then more power to you. However, in every repsonse you made here so far you just brag about how many ferrari's you have. Do you have anything else to contribute or do you just want us to start kissing your ass now because you own some nice cars. Looks like that's what you came here for right? Just curious, do you know how to change the oil in any of those badboys or do you just take it down the road to the ferrari dealership so they can do it for $500?

Re: Why get a Ferrari?

Actually I change my own oil. I was a mechanic for years and built custom cars. Sorry daddy, didnt mean to upset you, however just because a person can currently afford one doesnt give a reason to rip on them. most of them arent even that expensive. You can get many for 100k or less, much like many Mercedes and Porsches.
