Re: How to buy a Ferrari(or other rare exotic)
It took me 6+ months to find my 328GTS. Places to look-- www.ferrarichat.com, e-bay, dealers, other on-line sources. Find the one you like, check it out personally, then have a PPI (Pre-purchase inspection) done -- cost $300 to $600. The hardest part is finding the one that fits you -- color + maintenance level.

Re: How to buy a Ferrari(or other rare exotic)
If buying new it depends on several factors. If the 360 was any example I can bet that you dont just walk in and buy the new 430. My friend was on the waiting list at the dealership and had left a huge deposit. After 6 months he got a call that they had the car and color he wanted used with 5k miles on it and he could get it now for only 10K more than the new one. He said he would wait on the new one and the salesman said he was just checking that he had many more names on the list to call. i am sure he didnt make it to the end of the list.

Why you think you need a ''gargantuan'' amount of money to buy a Ferrari? A perfectly fine used 308 will cost about 30,000 euro and it will have almost certainly been taken care of more lovingly than a used sedan. A reasonable Dino GT4 is about 20000! I believe these prices are in the Mustang range (although the Mustang would be new).Running costs? Surely they'll be greater than the sedan or your Mustang but you only asked about the initial price. As for the new ones a 360 or the new 430 cost less than many supposedly ''sports'' Mercedes (fine cars in other respects). |

My response was to the guy that stated that even used Ferraris require a gargantuan amount of money to buy . As far as your own comment is concerned to my mind a Ferrari is a Ferrari is a Ferrari. The 360 is fast and more modern but is no more ''of a Ferrari'' than a 308. It's as simple as that.

Re: How to buy a Ferrari(or other rare exotic)

Re: How to buy a Ferrari(or other rare exotic)
I would definetly say the 360 had more effort and ingenuity put into itr then the 308.

It seems as if the coachbuilders peaked in the '70s and the dictatorship of the wind tunnel took over from there. Cars are faster now, cars are more reliable now, cars are more expensive now, but not one of the current exotics looks better than a 308 or a Jalpa, or more spectacular or outrageous than a Countach. In terms of looks alone, I'd rather have a FIAT X-1/9 (in good condition) than a Ferrari 360. |
