problems with rear end of 99 rodeo

i have just bought my isuzu rodeo 99 ls (75,200miles)from a used car dealership. iam already having problems with it . it makes a humming noise from the rear end and i have been told by a few mechanics that i may have to replace the entire rear end. can someone help , is this covered in anyway? is it a common prob with isuzu? cause i drove my last car to 270k without ever haing any rear end problem.or should i just try to sue the dealer

The Dana 44 rear diffs in our trucks usually last forever w/out any issues. You should have the limited slip rear w/ your '99 LS. The only touchy issue with them is to make sure you use a tube of friction modifier for the limited slip clutch packs, or you will get some chatter, not humming though!?! . I'd have a good driveline shop check it out & see what they think.
G/luck

Re: problems with rear end of 99 rodeo

I recently read a post, that the humming noise was due to the drive shaft needing to be balanced.

Also, you may want to replace your gear oil and make suer it has the limited slip additive to it too.
