I was able to see the 550 Barchetta when it was debuted at the 2000 Paris Autoshow. They had it up on this platform that turned and is a definately a very gorgeous car. I personally would rather have a 360 Spider, but I can see why people lined up so quickly for the 550 Barchetta. I mean, they sold everyone of the four hundred something that they are going to make, before the first one even hit the assembly line! They went into production this past January and they should be over in the states this fall. I believe they carried a price tag of 20% higher than that of the regular 550's! The only down side to this car is the crappy convertible roof. It was designed to only be used in case of emergency and you have to drive real slow if you have the roof up. However, I am sure that most people will rarely, if ever, put the roof of this car up. Anyway, all in all the 550 Barchetta is a truely unique car that became a classic before it even left the factory.

Not DuPont
No, I got it from a site that I like called Car Classic www.carclassic.com .
It's a European site (Geneva) that has hundreds and hundreds of the wildest cars (many of which we never get to see in North America). It's a really bad "looking" site, but the content is worth it for the car lover. Check it out. |

I prefer the Berlinetta. The roll hoop thingys and the wheels with the screws all around the edge ruin it for me....

True
I agree. The 550 Barchetta is nice and all, and I'm sure that it'll be all the rage in the South of France and Beverly Hills, but I just love the 550M coupe. Its lines are just so sleek and beautiful; a simply brilliant, timeless design.
I really really want one. |

Pretty much amazing

The 550 is a great car the way it is. The Barchetta only makes it better. BTw, someday my garage will look like the place in Geneva, an F40, F50, 550 Barchetta and a 550 Maranello. Also, I'm not sure if this is all that true, but I translated 'Barchetta" from Italian and apparenly it means "small boat". Kinda wierd.

Yeah, but you can do that when you make more money in one second than most people do in a year. I got my new Dupont yesterday and there's a place somewhere in the states that actually claims to have on thier property 7 550 Barchettas for 400K USD a piece. I want one !

I love the 550, and the Barchetta looks really nice IMHO. The 550 got a lot of bad press in europe when it was released, the criticism being that it was not a classic design, it wasnt as beautiful as a Ferrari should beetc... In some ways i agree, but generally i think it looks great, both in coupe and convertible form!! the Barchetta is simply amazing...
and oh ya... barchetta DOES mean small boat... FIAT actually have a charming little convertible called the FIAT Barchetta... nice car, funny name.. (FIAT Small Boat..... those Italians are a little strange, but you gotta love it! ) cheers jay |
