Question Battery light coming on

The charging system light is coming on dim at idle and then goes away when I rev up a little. It starts semi bright and just gets dimmer as the rpm's go up. I had my battery and alternator checked and they were both perfect. Does anyone know what it might be? Thanks guys.

PS: I'm going to check the battery ground and check for loose wires. My car is a 1991 240SX SE.

Yep, it could very well be the ground, if the alt and the battery are fine.

So I called up a friend and he said it sounds too much like the alternator. He said to use a voltmeter and check the voltage coming from the alt. Now here's my new dillema, the charging system light only comes on sometimes. When it comes on the voltage read about 12.4 which is too low, but when the charging system light doesn't come on it reads about 14.02 which is good. Is this the alternator or could a ground be doing this.

Re: Battery light coming on

bad alternator

what is happening is that the faster the alternator spins the more it puts out. alternators have a part inside to prevent them from doing that.

Is this true even though it is only doing it sometimes and not all the time.

Re: Battery light coming on

yeah you may as well make sure that you are grounded well. it could theoretically happen only sometimes but id bet that if it isnt a wiring problem, its your alternator
