Very interesting info - I wouldn't think Andretti would want to own a McLaren after he had such unkind words for the car when he reviewed it in Road&Track. I'm now very curious to hear the entire history of this car. I'm hesitant to believe that Andretti owned it, but there is some credible evidence there. Prior to that car coming to the USA it was located in Japan. I wonder how long Mario owned the car...?
Anyway, thanks for the info and the pictures. Congrats on getting to see the car! >8^) ER |

Yep...that’s the Gallardo in the back. Its funny, I just got a Digital Camera and I thought I'd go test it on some nice cars. So I go to Silicon Valley Auto Group and find that have an F40 and just got the Elise in. So nice. I wander the lot a little and joke with a salesman about buying a Gallardo (I'm 19 so he could tell I can't actually afford it). I ask him a few questions about the F40 and start talking about Ferrari super cars and he mentions to me a shop where someone keeps their collection. He mentioned an F50 and an Enzo, but as soon as he said McLaren, I knew I had to find it. He gave me some rough directions and before I new it, I was in a small shop (you see about half of it in that pic) with a couple million dollars worth of cars in it. What a great way to test out a new camera (BTW, the image quality is poor due to free image hosting, not the camera).
So in one day in a 5 mile radius I found two F40s, an F50, a McLaren F1, two Gallardos, a Murciélago, two Elises, and handfull of unlimited production Ferraries and Aston Martins. This weekend, well it's Monterey Auto Weekend. Historic races, Concorso Italiano, and Pebble Beach Concours. I can't wait! |

Re: Mclaren F1 Registry
Wow, you are so lucky. I went there once, but it was closed. All I got was a picture of the outside.
When you went, was the garage already open, or did you have to knock? |

The bodywork of crash cars tends not to be painted cause it's a complete waste of money.
XP2 appears light blue because, like most other crash prototypes, it was painted this colour (with a brush) to help the engineers work out what has happened during the crash (along with the yellow and black circles). 019, 026 & 027 were replaced by 01R, 02R & 03R. Those numbers along with 030, 032, 034, 035 & 041 were never allocated to any chassis, apparently. |

He may have forgotten Rowan Atkinson (aka: Mr. Bean), but Bill Gates has never been confirmed as an owner of any McLaren F1s.
Surely he could afford them all, but to my knowledge he has never owned a single one. If someone has credible info that differs from that, please share it. >8^) ER |
