99 lude vtec with turbo?
Hey guys and gals,
I'm looking to up grade from a 3rd gen lude to something newer. It seems like ludes are rare around where I live so I've only been able to find a couple for a decent price. One I did manage to find is a '99 2.2Vtec with a turbo kit on it. Its listed on autotrader from a dealer and it says it only has 80k miles on it. If i'm right the 5th gens have H22A4s? How are these at handling up to a turbo? What kinda power do these carry stock? How afraid should I be if the guy that put the turbo on didn't build the internals right? Its only about $8-9k so even without the turbo its a pretty good deal. Anyone with any wisdom care to scare me away from it before i get myself into trouble? I have no problem tearing into a motor, I build/maintain race motors for hydroplanes on the weekends and have worked as a mechanic in the past. I just am not familiar with the strength/tunability of the newer hondas. (mine have always been early 90's) |

Re: 99 lude vtec with turbo?
Doubt it only has 80k. I have a 94, and she's at 206k. Stock internals, being so old, they can handle the high compression of VTEC, but as for turbo, eventually all the parts will weaken. Plus, it's better to turbo the H23A1, because it's low compression, and it has more low-end torque then the H22. As for the 5th gen, yeah they have H22A4, the h22a4 has 10 more hp than the H22A1, not the JDM H22A. The H22A has approx. 220HP, but a little higher compression than the USDM H22A4. You could always get the JDM, and build that, then boost it AFTER it's built. They've got mad potential. There's a vid on YouTube of a Naturally Aspirated H22 bored out to an 'H27. AKA 2.7 litres. Just search "H22 H27" Any other questions?

Engine Code/Models/Years/Horsepower/(SAE) Torque (ft-lbs)/Compression Ratio/Bore (mm)/Stroke (mm)/Layout Displacement (cc)/Market
