WTB - Base RSX '02 Upper Air Box

Anybody have one for sale? I broke mine. acuraoemparts.com wants $50 for the complete box; looking to pay less since I only need the upper.

You're asking for help from a bunch of posers.
Their usual advice is to go to an Acura dealership.

Don't try to re-heat the plastic to melt it back on, that will only shrink pieces and make them unusable.

My advice is to try to repair the box using "JB Welds" epoxy on the break and using Saran Wrap to mold it on.
Put up a picture so that we can get a better illustration of the damage.

Posers, eh? I can't speak for Canuck, mmonto, Mason and the others, but I'd like to keep my stock airbox so I can re-install it when I sell the car, then sell the SRI. Or worst case, re-install if anything were to happen to my AEM filter element. Why the insults all of a sudden Mendari?

Hey, I don't want to get hit here in the middle......thanks for the tip; I was just thinking about repairing it instead of spending all that cash. Especially since I just bought a used Neuspeed front strut bar on ebay!!

Sorry, but it's been getting dull in here.

People come to this forum with questions and concerns and we should try to give them real answers.
If we keep telling people to go to the dealership for repairs, this forum becomes impotent.
Sorry to offend, but I'm trying to weed-out the post whores.

Don't rush into using JB Welds. It's ridiculously strong. Be sure to practice using it on something else. For example, break an old CD case and try to mend it.

Re: WTB - Base RSX '02 Upper Air Box

Thanks again for the tips. I need to figure out how to get the part of the box that is still stuck in the breather tube OUT of the breather tube......maybe some heat will help, it is so freaking cold up here. I will try tomorrow (maybe tonight if enough light) when the engine is warm and the sun is out.

If worse comes to worst you can always buy a new breather, cut the old one to remove the plastic and Liquid Nails it back into place. It must be cold there if you broke it lifting the upper filter housing- the plastic is quite thick. In any case, remove TB tubing and take it inside so you don't lose fingers.

Hey guys, I got it!! Thanks for saving me $50 - $100, depending on who I would have bought the part new from. Those are dealer prices I have seen.

Yeah, colder than....... I don't know why I ever left south Florida......never had any hurricane problems there! And the roads here suck like you wouldn't believe unless you have experienced it yourself. Supposedly worse than any other state, thanks to our poverty, weight limits for trucks, cold winters and use of salt on the snow and ice. Which is why I have no plans for lowering my car or removing the little factory splash guards. Their idea of road repair is to throw (literally) a bunch of tar-coated rocks around!!

Anyway, here are some before and after pictures. I let it cure indoors overnight, and almost broke it again installing it because I found out I was late for jury duty - wasn't expecting to get called in at the end of the week.

OK, here aren't some photos.....my photo upload limit is 80k!! What the hell photo file is that small!! Suffice to say, it looks good, certainly not like brand new, but a small bead of JB Weld all around the tube - and it works.

Test the patch for air leaks using a few sticks of incense. Use your thumb to push on the throttle connector and hold the revs at a steady RPM.
