Re: 93 minivan apv
Little confused.....the van wouldn't start, so you changed the battery?
Was this because the van wouldn't crank? Or because it cranked and didn't start? Well, with the new battery it must at least crank, but still doesn't start...... You changed the plugs and wires, but do you have spark? You changed the fuel filter, but do you have fuel pressure? Does this have a 3.8 or a 3.1? |

Re: 93 minivan apv
The battery died so i changed it and it started then i turned it off for a little while and then it wouldn't start left it for about 1 hour and then it started again. Left for a little while came back and tried to start it and nothing, turned over but didn't start. I therefor changed the plugs and wires and the fuel filter and it still wont start.

Check for fuel in the gas tank. Go to Auto Zone and get a loaner fuel pump tester. It screws on a schrader valve in the fuel rail. What is the pressure,if Zero put your finger on the fuel pump relay does it pulse? |

Re: 93 minivan apv
Is this throttle body injection? If yes, pull the air cleaner, and check for fuel flow from the injector(s) in the throttle body during cranking.......if there is flow, then check for spark like rhandwor stated....if there is no fuel and no spark, does this have a distributor? If yes, would suspect a bad ICM.....

Re: 93 minivan apv
3.8 THis is multiport injection.
The crank sensor is a common culprit as well asn the ignition module. Not the computer module..usually. Starting then stopping once warm...then running again later once cold is typical of the crank sensor. The ignition module can be changed quite easily. For the crank sensor, it requires pulling the engine damper/pulley. Both parts are about 30$ each on ebay. I bought both years ago. I have run several threads about this problem in the transport forum....

Re: 93 minivan apv
I don't think the 3.8 had multiport......the 3.1, yes.....quite sure the 3.8 was throttle body injection.....
If this is multiport, it's a 3.1.......check for spark with a spark tester? If there is spark, spray cab cleaner into the intake to see if it will start...... |

Re: 93 minivan apv
LMP, you could be right....I worked on Transports, whichm were the same thing as Lumina APV's.....
I don't ever remember seeing a 3.8 with multiport..... The original 2.8's and early 3.1's were multiport, which means that 3 cylinders all fired at the same time....the other 3 cylinders all fired at the same time, but a different time from the other 3 cylinders....the reason for this was, these engines had a crank sensor, and not a cam sensor....when the 3100 came along, they put a cam sensor in the engine, and this changed the engine from multiport to sequential.... 3.8's in cars were basically all sequential......but I believe the 3.8 in vans, had throttle body injection......now, if it had a distributor, which some models had, it definitely wasn't multiport...... |
