Sound system, popping or sparking noise.
I own a 2000 Grand AM with Monsoon stereo system.
I noticed today, that my car makes a popping noise after having the radio on for awhile. It doesn't matter if its a high-bass song, or what input it is(CD vs. Cassette vs. Radio). The sound comes from what sounds like the passenger rear side head panel. It blatantly sounds like its coming from the roof. This problem persists after listening to music for a while. Shut off the radio and let it rest for a few minutes and it'll go away for a few minutes. In terms of sound quality, its slightly annoying. But I'm consistently afraid that the noise is a sparking. It sounds like a popping noise. I cannot see or smell smoke or any real sign that there is a spark, just is definitely a possibility judging from the sound. What I'd like to know: Is there anything in the headboard that would make this sort of noise? I tried holding the center light module, it made no difference. Do I have any options for repair? Thanks, Eddie |

Re: Sound system, popping or sparking noise.
Welcome to AF.
Sounds like you might have a blown speaker on that side. Or something small could have dropped onto the speaker causing more strange noise. From inside your trunk check the speaker for tears around the edge of the 6x9's paper cone.

Re: Sound system, popping or sparking noise.
Did some more inspecting, turns out to be a blown speaker.
I ordered a new speaker tonight. Factory replacement. I like loud music but this car doesn't have to last and at only $32 a pop... I can't complain. |
