Engine just stops!!

Hi

I have read some other threads about alpha's cutting out. This is what is happening to my fathers. It has begun to just die after driving for a short while. He did let the battery go flat one day and it seems that since then he has been having problems. The engine just cuts out when my father slows down to stop. The car will not start after this. If he however locks up the car and walks away for about 20 minutes, it starts again.

Any ideas would be great.

A garage put it on a diagnostic and said that it was a seatbelt sensor. This was fixed but the problem is still there.

Would resetting the ecu be a place to start. If so how do I do this.

Thank you, Mark

Re: Engine just stops!!

Sounds like the RPM sensor, symptoms usually works until it warms up then cuts engine and will not restart until it cools down. On the 1.8 and 2.0 it is located under the starter motor and held in with one allen key bolt, price from dealer around £25-£30.

Re: Engine just stops!!

Thanks for that. I will have a go at locating it and seeing what I can do. These cars have sensors all over the place.

Italian I guess!!
