Re: The SRT4 is the fastest FWD car ever?
Funny how no one has mentioned FWD DSM Turbos, They take to mods like a fat kit does his cupcakes...

Except we're not talking about world's fastest modified FWD car (by the way, I think that a Saturn Ion took that record on the salt flats), we're talking about the FF's the factories give us, and there really isn't much that compares to the ballsy SRT-4.

Re: The SRT4 is the fastest FWD car ever?
I could however, name a good few FWD cars that could out-corner an SRT4, isn't that the most mportant aspect of racing
hey, don't spoil the kid's dream of the cheapest, fastest, fwd car. he feels like he needs something boast about, so let him have his 'top trumps' moment. |

Well, it IS the fastest if all you do is street racing/drag racing. And it's cheap as hell, too.

Re: The SRT4 is the fastest FWD car ever?
...i guess.
maybe it's just cos we don't have much of a drag race culture here. we like our races with corners and sweeping curves.... for that reason, even a car that is MARGINALLY slower like the integra type r, alfa GTV, or focus RS would run rings around it on a track. hell, i bet even a mini cooper s will beat it round a decent race track...

I dunno, I think you're underestimating the SRT-4's handling. The car has been a dominant force in lower-level autocross/rally over the past couple of years, and the suspension on it has a lot of potential.

Re: The SRT4 is the fastest FWD car ever?
I believe a FWD Twin Turbo Stealth could take it

Closest match is the Acura TL 270 hp FWD car.

Actually, according to the sources I've found, the Acura RSX Type-S and the SRT-4 Neon tie on the skidpad at .86g's. Which is not inconsiderable for any FF car considering how much a fwd platform works against lateral grip.
The SRT-4 is a very competent cornering machine, even more so now that it wears BFGoodrich KDW2's instead of the old Michelins from the factory. The SRT-4 has also proved itself king of FWD Rally cars in the SCCA Pro Rally, ending the stranglehold DSM's and Volkswagens had on that class. New rules for next year in Speed World Challenge are allowing the entrance of carefully monitored forced induction, thus allowing the SRT-4 Neon to compete with it's many competitors on an even playing field. Mini Cooper S's, Audi A4's, Mazda's new AWD Turbo 6, LanEvos, and WRX's will all converge on the Speed World Challenge next year to take the fight to the existing Nissan Sentra SE-R, Acura TSX's, and BMW 325i's. It's going to be a fun year.

Re: The SRT4 is the fastest FWD car ever?
Wonder if they did that for a reason? Why would anyone care if it is fwd or not? Fwd totally sucks when you have a ton of power.

I'm a little late, but to return to what Layla mentioned previously about the Omni GLH's, I have seen/read/heard about a turbo Omni using only OTC parts from Chrysler, no aftermarket parts, capable of flat 9's, and still handled great in cornering, and top end. It was the epitome of 'grocery getter'.
Also, I have seen footage/articles of a dodge caravan factory turbo 4 cylinder also capable of 10's. The video I saw was the minivan smoking a new Camaro that went 11's. Good stuff. I have not seen an SRT-4 in person, but it seems that they are quite the car. My 5.0 prolly wouldn't have much of a chance. |

Well, there's some pretty secret squirrel OTC parts that used to come out of Direct Connection (the former name of Mopar). For instance, before the woefully unreliable Lotus developed Twin Cam head that was used on the Daytona R/T's, Direct Connection actually developed a twin cam head that was most famously used on the PPG Interceptor concept car.
The Interceptor is most famous for appearing in the Charlie Sheen movie "The Wraith".
